Determination of all diffeomorphism invariant tensor fields on the space of smooth positive densities on a compact manifold with corners

Abstract

It was proved in [3] that on a closed manifold of dimension greater than one, every smooth weak Riemannian metric on the space of smooth positive probability densities that is invariant under the action of the diffeomorphism group is a multiple of the Fisher--Rao metric. Here we describe all purely covariant tensor fields of arbitrary order on the space of positive densities of a compact manifold with corners which are invariant under the action of the connected component of the diffeomorphism group. Finally, we classify the considerably fewer purely contravariant invariant tensor fields, describe the basic mixed contraction, and indicate the expected form of general invariant tensor fields.
