Search for Diffuse Supernova Neutrino Background of All Flavors with PandaX-4T

Abstract

We present the first search for the diffuse supernova neutrino background utilizing coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering with the PandaX-4T liquid xenon detector at the China Jinping Underground Laboratory. Based on a total exposure of 1.54 tonne · year from the commissioning and first science runs, we observe no significant event excess over the expected background. We therefore set an upper limit of (2.27 − 2.43) × 103 cm−2s−1 per flavor at 90\% confidence level on the νx flux (each of νμ, ν̅μ, ντ, ν̅τ) of the diffuse supernova neutrino background for incident neutrino energies above 19.3~MeV. The result is comparable to the current world best limit.
