Improvement of Electron Cyclotron Emission Radiometer Towards Real-Time Temperature Measurement in the WEST tokamak

4 more authors

Abstract

The electron cyclotron emission (ECE) diagnostics currently operating in WEST is inherited from the 32-channel heterodyne radiometer previously qualified on Tore Supra. In the present work, we report the upgrade of the acquisition system towards real-time exploitation, together with an overview of the current state and operating process of the radiometer. The upgraded system acquires the 32 ECE channels at 1 MHz in selected time windows of interest, while also performing real-time processing to deliver calibrated electron temperature profiles at 1 kHz with sub-millisecond latency. This makes the real-time acquisition compatible with WEST long-pulse operations while preserving the temperature dynamics required for the detection of low-frequency instabilities such as sawtooth.
