Waldenström macroglobulinemia presenting with lumbar vertebral fracture as the initial symptom: a rare case report and literature review

  1. 1epartment of Orthopedics, The First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, Suzhou, China

Abstract

Waldenström macroglobulinemia (WM) is a rare type of B-cell lymphoma characterized by lymphoplasmacytic infiltration in the bone marrow and elevated serum monoclonal immunoglobulin M (IgM). Pathological bone-destructive lesions are exceedingly uncommon in this disease. Cases of WM presenting initially with lumbar vertebral fractures have been sporadically reported in clinical practice. We also outline the features that distinguish WM-related fractures from those caused by multiple myeloma and skeletal metastases, and summarize 12 previously published cases identified by a systematic PubMed search.
