Abstract

• Spent hops retain valuable bioactive compounds suitable for valorization. • Ethanol and supercritical CO 2 extraction were compared by techno-economic analysis. • Supercritical CO 2 extraction yielded extracts with higher antioxidant activity. • Valorization of defatted biomass improved the economic performance of SFE. • Supercritical CO 2 extraction showed superior profitability.
